"body": "You are putting together a short list of venture-backed API companies, and Union Square Ventures is on it. You open its page on APIs.io and see what looks like a tidy summary. The firm has 206 portfolio companies tracked on the network, and 77 of them publish APIs the catalog indexes. The book rates 38.7 on the Kin Score and 24.1 on Agent Readiness, which puts it in the thin band. Seven providers are marked strong.\n\nThen you look at the strong list and one entry stops you. Stack Overflow is shown at 66.0. You click through, and the link goes to the slug active-directory, which is Microsoft Active Directory. The real Stack Overflow record scores 38.3, with an agent score of 28.6. A venture portfolio page is showing Microsoft's directory service as a company the fund backed.\n\nThe post you are reading says plainly that the error is the catalog's own. It does not blame the portfolio or the company. It goes on to count four errors on that one page.\n\nThe first is the Stack Overflow mix-up: 66.0 against a true 38.3. The second is Feedburner, which resolves to BetaList and carries a score of 25.3. The catalog has no Feedburner record at all, so that row should not carry a score.\n\nThe third is that the header contradicts the body. The top of the page says 203 publish APIs. The body says 77 publish and 126 do not. The 203 is those two numbers added together.\n\nThe fourth is a stale cohort brief lower on the page, and it renders raw data. It counts 7 exemplar and 3 strong providers where the list above it counts 6 and 7. Its agent ranking prints a raw structure, {\"score\" => 69.6, \"band\" => \"agent-native\"}, for Cloudflare, whose record now says 60.6. It also names Microsoft Active Directory outright in its top ten.\n\nHere is the part you may find useful if you plan to cite the averages. Swapping in the real Stack Overflow and dropping Feedburner moves the plain average of the 77 from 39.8 to 39.6, and the agent average from 25.0 to 25.3. Averages absorb this kind of error. Lists do not. As the post puts it, a reader scanning the page sees Microsoft's directory in a venture portfolio, and that is the thing you would have repeated to someone else.\n\nThe post also flags a risk it could not resolve. Canvas supplies 146 of the portfolio's 462 APIs, or 32%. The entry is a bare name match pointing at Instructure's learning management system, and the author could not confirm that link from the catalog's own files. A wrong match there would matter far more than the Stack Overflow one.\n\nSo what can you trust? The post gives a corrected top of the book. Twilio leads at 86.0 on the Kin Score and 47.1 on agents, with 55 APIs. Stripe follows at 82.6 and 49.5, with 47 APIs. Then MongoDB at 75.9, Cloudflare at 75.6, Dwolla at 73.5, Super Payments at 72.0, Canvas at 63.7, Jam at 62.7, Viam at 61.5 and Coinbase at 56.1. Cloudflare has the best agent score in the book at 60.6, with Dwolla second at 55.3. Viam runs the other way, strong overall at 61.5 but only 20.9 on agents. Neynar and Yieldmo score higher for agents than on the Kin Score overall.\n\nThe split inside the 77 matters too. Forty-eight companies are shown with published contracts, and they average 44.9 and 29.5 on agents. The other 29 are shown with a plain API count, and they average 31.4 and 17.6. The tail includes Lending Club at 14.1 and Tumblr at 7.9. The post is careful here: those numbers measure the first-party material the catalog could read, and they say nothing about the products themselves.\n\nWhat you take away is practical. The portfolio is a real group of API companies with a long, young tail, but the page needs a second look before you quote it. Check any entry where the portfolio name and the provider name disagree, which the post says is 10 entries, and start with Canvas. Treat the averages as steady and the named rows as suspect until the name-to-slug matching has been audited and the cohort brief draws on the same data as the list above it.\n\nRead the original: https://apis.io/2026/11/04/union-square-ventures-rollup-counts-microsoft-active-directory-as-stack-overflow/",
